O2 Offers Free USA Roaming for World Cup Fans This Week

O2 has announced a free upgrade for UK iPhone and Android users this week, offering complimentary data roaming in the USA for pay monthly customers. The promotion runs from July 6 to July 20, 2026, designed to help England fans heading to the World Cup stay connected without extra charges.

How the Free Roaming Works

Customers on a pay monthly Classic Plan simply need to log into their MyO2 account and activate the O2 Travel Bolt On (normally £7 per day) or purchase a data bolt-on (1GB, 3GB, or 5GB). O2 will automatically credit back the cost of the bolt-on for the duration of the promotion. This eliminates the need to buy an eSIM or add any extras to their account.

Why O2 Is Offering This

Getting data in the USA can be hugely expensive, with some networks charging up to £6 per day. O2's gesture builds on its inclusive EU roaming standard across all plans and its commitment to keeping customers connected. Lutz Schüler, CEO of Virgin Media O2, said: "Whether travelling in Europe or heading across the Pond, we’re now giving our customers one less thing to worry about this summer by crediting back roaming charges in the USA for the remainder of the tournament. From cheering their team on from the stands or sharing the excitement with friends and family back home, our customers can focus on the scoreline, not roaming charges, with the freedom, connectivity and confidence to make every moment count."

Comparison with Other Networks

Other UK networks charge significant fees for USA roaming. EE charges £6 per day or offers a 7-day pass for £30. Vodafone's pricing also starts at £6 per day, while Three charges £5 per day. Alternative eSIM providers like Airalo offer data from as little as £3.50, but that price is only for 3 days of access and limited to 1GB.
