IndiGo has announced it will suspend its flight services between London Heathrow and Delhi and Mumbai in India from August 31. The budget airline cited a “challenging operating environment triggered by the ongoing geopolitical tensions,” along with rising fuel costs and restrictions to airspace, for the decision.
Routes and timeline
The routes, which were launched in July 2025, will cease operations on August 31. IndiGo will return the aircraft it had leased from Norse Atlantic Airways in October, when the flights officially come to an end.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, stated it will “work closely with affected customers to offer suitable alternatives” and assist with refunds or other travel arrangements.
Future plans
The airline plans to restart operations between India and Heathrow after it takes delivery of new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. It has also announced plans to stop other routes from Manchester Airport, with those cuts effective later this month.
Several other airlines will continue to offer flights between UK airports and the two Indian cities. IndiGo’s new boss, Willie Walsh, a former Irish pilot and airline veteran, took over yesterday following a scheduling crisis in 2025.
Background
Last December, IndiGo faced mass flight cancellations after being unprepared for new government rules on pilot rosters. In March, the airline’s former chief executive, Pieter Elbers, resigned.
