The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will travel to Botswana at the start of October to mark the 60th anniversary of the country's independence.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the couple will be in Botswana between October 5 and 8. The visit is set to celebrate the modern partnership between the United Kingdom and Botswana, based on shared values, support for economic growth, and people-to-people ties connecting both countries.
First visit to Botswana
During the visit, which will be their first to Botswana, the couple will meet with His Excellency President Advocate Duma Boko. The programme will also highlight several areas of collaboration between Botswana and the UK.
The visit to Botswana is the first for a royal since the Duchess of Edinburgh travelled there in 2022.
Prince Harry and Meghan's connection
After just two dates, Prince Harry took Meghan Markle to Botswana to mark their third date back in 2016. It is also the place where the couple "fell in love" with humanitarian work.
"I remember when Meghan told me about Botswana," said Meghan's friend, Janina Gavankar, in an interview with GMA. She added, "I loved how she was... pleasantly surprised. Like, this boy is actually just doing this for real. This is not some flouncy trip. He really means it."
"They fell in love with nothing around them. No frills. No bells and whistles. All they had was each other, doing good work in a place where nobody was watching them. They did that separately. Imagine what they can do together."
Meghan's engagement ring also featured a stone from Botswana.
