A family that had long favoured all-inclusive resorts in sunny destinations found an unexpected alternative in the Netherlands, at the Eurocamp TerSpegelt park near the Belgian border. The park, set on 30 acres in the town of Eersel, exceeded expectations, offering a range of sports facilities and activities that kept children entertained.
Why the Netherlands Became a Family Destination
Initially, a trip to the Netherlands meant only a weekend in Amsterdam without the kids. However, after many other parents recommended a European holiday park, the family decided to try one. While researching sites in France and Italy, they discovered TerSpegelt, just a couple of miles from the Belgian border.
Upon arrival, bikes proved essential, with hire available for between €8 and €12, helmets included. By day two, the children were cycling confidently around the site, enjoying playgrounds, bike tracks, swimming pools, lakes and a supermarket. The family stayed in a Premium three-bedroom cabin, which included a kitchen with a gas hob and dishwasher, a shower room, air conditioning, a TV, and an outdoor covered lounge decking area with a second dining table and gas barbecue.
Activities and Attractions at TerSpegelt
The Swimming Lake, the smaller of two lakes in the park, was particularly popular, featuring water slides, paddleboards, pedalos and a sandy beach. The Pump Track, a large cycle track with hills and humps, was also a hit, with smaller tracks for younger children scattered around the park. Most activities are included in the cost of the holiday, including the TubbyJump dry slope and the Blob, an inflatable water cushion that launches a person into the lake.
For cooler or rainy days, the indoor pool offers a slide, hot tub and indoor beach. Other amenities include a bowling alley, pool, darts, arts and crafts sessions, treasure hunts, quizzes, 'swingo' and a mini-disco. A large supermarket and restaurants are also on site.
Day Trips to Efteling and Beekse Bergen
The park's proximity to Efteling, the country's largest theme park, is another draw. Located about an hour's drive away, it features fairytale-themed attractions, including roller coasters and gentler rides. Tickets cost around €50 per person when booked in advance online.
Beekse Bergen safari park, 40 minutes away, offers tours by car, boat and on foot, with views of animals including lions and elephants. Tickets were around €25 per person. The family advised spacing out these tiring trips, such as one on Tuesday and another on Thursday.
On the return journey, the family recommended a stop in Bruges or a quick visit to a French supermarket for crémant, noting a bottle that might cost £20 in the UK was available for as little as €4. Seven nights from Saturday October 24 2026, in a Premium three-bedroom holiday home sleeping up to six, cost from £651.70 per party, and seven nights from Saturday April 3 2027, in a Comfort three-bedroom holiday home, cost from £712.04 per party.
