The UK is experiencing a spell of severe weather, with snow and heavy rain affecting many regions. The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings this week, while the Environment Agency has over 50 flood alerts and warnings in place as of Wednesday afternoon.
Twelve flood warnings, indicating that flooding is expected and immediate action is required, have been issued for England. Additionally, more than 40 flood alerts warn residents to prepare for possible flooding. The Met Office has also issued yellow warnings for rain and snow from Wednesday to Friday.
Northern Ireland is under a yellow rain warning from 6pm Wednesday to 9am Thursday, with potential flooding and travel disruption. Parts of north-west England and the Midlands face a yellow rain warning from midnight to 11.59pm Thursday. Much of Scotland is under a yellow snow warning from 4am Thursday to 9am Friday, while southern Scotland and northern England have a similar warning from 4am to 3pm Thursday.
The Environment Agency has urged the public to stay informed about local flood risks. Residents can check active flood warnings and alerts on the Government website, which also provides a five-day flood risk forecast and a long-term flood risk assessment by postcode. Free flood warnings via text, phone, or email are available for England, with similar services in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
