Comedian Jason Manford has been forced to cancel his scheduled show in Belfast after his British Airways flight was unable to land due to Storm Amy. The plane, which departed from London, was diverted to Manchester after a terrifying attempted landing.
In a statement, Manford's team confirmed the cancellation, saying: 'Due to extreme weather conditions caused by Storm Amy, the British Airways plane that Jason Manford was flying on this afternoon could not land in Belfast and was rerouted to Manchester. This unfortunately means that Jason's show tonight has been cancelled. Please hold onto your tickets and you will be contacted next week with the date for the rescheduled show.'
The 43-year-old had been documenting his journey online, sharing footage of the plane struggling to land in high winds. The pilot aborted the landing after a gust caused the nose to dip, and the aircraft was re-routed to Manchester. Manford described the experience as 'scary' and noted that four passengers had chosen to disembark before take-off due to concerns over the weather.
After landing in Manchester, Manford joked that he was now just 15 minutes from his home and considered asking to be let off there instead of returning to London. He expressed his apologies to fans, writing: 'Not gonna lie! That was scary! After those women got off too! Premonition. Anyway, really sorry weather has scuppered our show tonight, will be back as soon as possible! Thanks for understanding and all lovely messages.'
Fans responded with support, with one saying: 'Just thankful he’s landed safe, even if it’s not where he wanted to be. Safety is the most important thing. Gigs can be rescheduled.' Another added: 'After earlier post i did wonder as long as all are safe main things.' The rescheduled date for the Belfast show has yet to be announced.
