The UK is set for further wet weather next week, with flooding expected in parts of the south-west of England and the Midlands, and snow showers possible in the far north. The Environment Agency has issued 73 flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, mainly in the south-west and Midlands, along with 177 flood alerts across England indicating possible flooding.
Natural Resources Wales has two flood alerts in place in South Pembrokeshire and the Lower Severn catchment in Powys. The Met Office forecasts blustery showers spreading overnight on Sunday, with chilly temperatures and frost in the north. Monday will bring sunny spells and showers, with heavy rainfall, hail, thunderstorms, and snow showers in the far north.
Tuesday is expected to be largely drier and brighter, while Wednesday and Thursday may bring rain and snow in the south but mostly dry conditions in the north. The Met Office may issue weather warnings later this week as conditions evolve. Provisional statistics show Northern Ireland had its wettest January in 149 years, and southern England its sixth wettest since 1836.
Parts of Devon, Cornwall, and Worcestershire experienced 40 consecutive days of rainfall. Storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra have caused flooding in several regions since the start of the year. The wet weather is expected to continue into next weekend, with longer spells of rain predicted on Friday and over the weekend, though some drier interludes are likely.
