The organisers of the Alnwick Halloween House have announced the postponement of the display's opening night due to severe winds from Storm Boele, saying they are "absolutely gutted" by the decision.
The free display was scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, but organisers have cancelled both Saturday and Sunday displays because of forecasted severe weather, with gusts of up to 80mph expected across the North East.
Amber Weather Warning Issued
An amber weather warning covering parts of Northumberland, including Alnwick, has been issued from 9pm on Saturday evening. The Halloween House display was set to run from 6-8pm across eight nights from October 24-31.
In a post made earlier today, organisers explained: "Unfortunately, the forecast is still showing strong winds continuing into Sunday evening, meaning it simply won’t be possible for us to start putting everything back together in time."
Storm Damage and Repairs
"The storm has already caused damage, and we’ve had to take down and pack away parts of our display to prevent further damage. With the winds expected to remain strong, we’ll now need Monday to repair and rebuild."
The event, which raises money for local charities, is hoping to hold the official opening on Monday evening, but organisers have stated this is still not guaranteed.
Organisers' Determination
They added: "Thank you all so much for your understanding and continued support. We’ve put so many hours of hard work into this display, and it’s really saddening to see the weather cause so much disruption."
"But we’re determined to get everything back up and running as soon as possible So we can all enjoy Alnwick's Halloween House 2026."
