A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale has struck Japan, specifically the northern island of Hokkaido. The seismic event occurred approximately 11 miles west of the small town of Sarabetsu, at a depth of 50 miles beneath the Earth's surface.
No Tsunami Warning Issued
As of now, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has not issued any tsunami warning in connection with this earthquake. This development comes just one week after a massive 7.7 magnitude tremor triggered a tsunami and prompted the JMA to issue an advisory regarding the potential for a megaquake.
Megaquake Advisory Unaffected
The JMA has confirmed that today's earthquake occurred outside the area subject to the ongoing megaquake advisory. Furthermore, the special awareness week related to the megaquake warning is scheduled to conclude as planned, unaffected by this latest seismic activity.
Further details will be provided as they become available.
