Meteorological Spring Begins with Sunny Skies and Above-Average Temperatures
Spring Starts Sunny with Above-Average Temperatures in UK

Meteorological spring has officially commenced across the United Kingdom, bringing with it a predominantly dry and sunny start to the season. Forecasters are predicting that many regions will experience temperatures sitting comfortably above the average for this time of year, providing a welcome respite after a notably wet winter.

A Bright Beginning to March

March 1st marks the beginning of meteorological spring, and the Met Office has indicated a "good start" to the month. Following significant rainfall throughout the winter, the shift towards drier conditions is a positive development for much of the country.

Temperature Trends and Regional Variations

Meteorologist Honor Criswick noted that temperatures are currently around or above the seasonal average. On Thursday, some areas could see highs reaching up to 16°C, while other parts may enjoy temperatures around 15°C.

She explained, "Across central, southern England, and the eastern areas, there should be quite a lot of dry weather around, some sunshine as well. It will be feeling a bit milder tomorrow again, with temperatures reaching around 14 to 15°C, so feeling quite pleasant where you catch the sunshine."

However, Scotland, along with parts of north and south-west England and Wales, might experience a "quite a damp" start to the week before potentially warming up.

Weekly Weather Outlook

The dry weather is expected to persist into Tuesday, with intermittent sunshine possibly interspersed with light drizzle across central and eastern England. By Wednesday, if cloud cover breaks, highs of around 15°C could be achieved before rain returns later in the week for some regions.

Ms Criswick summarised, "On the whole, it's quite a nice, settled start to the spring. You can't completely escape the rain, but it's a lot better than what we've had recently, so it's quite a nice week."

Daylight and Seasonal Transition

Adding to the seasonal cheer, the UK will gain at least two more hours of daylight over the coming weeks as it prepares for British Summer Time. The clocks are set to "spring" forward by one hour on March 29th, further extending the evenings and enhancing the sense of seasonal change.

This sunny and mild start to meteorological spring offers an optimistic outlook for outdoor activities and a break from the dreary winter weather, with temperatures consistently above average across many parts of the nation.
