The Met Office has forecast rain for 110 council areas across the UK on Sunday afternoon, July 26, bringing an end to the recent warm weather for millions.
Saturday and Sunday outlook
The Met Office said of Saturday: “Band of rain across Scotland moving southeastwards and turning increasingly showery. Remaining dry, sunny and very warm across southern areas, with brighter and fresher conditions following across Scotland.”
The Sunday to Tuesday forecast states: “Fresher for all on Sunday with sunny spells and some showers. Remaining changeable early next week across the north, but potentially turning dry and very warm again in the south.”
Rainfall amounts and affected areas
The wettest weather is expected late on Sunday afternoon. Most areas will see less than 1mm of rain, but heavier downpours are predicted in some regions. Up to 8mm is expected in the Lake District, Lancashire, Hampshire, and East Yorkshire, while Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire could see up to 32mm.
Rain will affect 55 council areas in England, 22 in Scotland and Wales each, and 11 in Northern Ireland. Rain begins in northern areas, including Scotland and Northern Ireland, on Saturday afternoon and continues through most of Sunday. A second band of rain is expected to arrive in the early hours of Sunday, hitting the western side of the country and leading to a gloomy afternoon for most.

Temperatures will be cool for summer, with highs of 21°C in southern England, 17°C in northern England, 19°C in Wales, 16°C in Northern Ireland, and 15°C in Scotland.
