The Met Office has named 18 areas across the UK that are likely to see rain on Saturday, July 25, following a prolonged spell of hot weather. Scotland, northern and north-eastern England, and parts of north Wales are expected to be most affected, according to weather maps issued by the forecaster.
Rain spread across the weekend
A Met Office forecast covering Friday, July 24, to Sunday, July 26, stated: "Dry and very warm at first, especially in the south. Rain then spreads southeastwards through the weekend, followed by sunny spells and showers. Temperatures trend closer to normal by Sunday."
Scattered showers are also possible on Wednesday, July 22, as a low-pressure system is predicted to bring rain to much of the country towards the end of the month. A band of rain arriving from the Atlantic is expected to end the recent hot weather.

The Met Office forecast for the weekend onwards noted "outbreaks of widespread rain" will push across the country from Saturday. It added: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but southeastern areas should also see some showers."

England: Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland
Scotland: Sutherland, Ross and Cromarty, Inverness-shire, Lanarkshire, Fife, Stirling, Dumfries, West Lothian, Midlothian, East Lothian
Northern Ireland: County Derry, County Tyrone
