A dad who promised TV host Lee Mack he'd batter a world record has succeeded by wolfing down 15 fish fingers in just 60 seconds.
Nathan Davies, 32, gobbled his way into the Guinness World Records book after polishing off the freezer favourite in a minute - all because of a pledge he made on ITV quiz show The 1% Club. The project manager from Westhoughton, Bolton, had joked on the programme he would attempt a record if he won big.
After pocketing £98,000, he vowed he couldn't chicken out.
How the record attempt came about
Nathan, a father-of-two, said: “It all came about because I eat quite a lot and my brother-in-law asked me how fast can I eat a box of Mini Milks.
“That was how it all started, so then we thought, we'll check if there's a world record for them. There wasn't, but we started checking what there was.
“I've always got 20 fish fingers in the freezer, so I thought, that one sounds achievable. They're bland, they're not horribly chewy, that sounds all right.”
Hot fingers and strict rules
But he almost scolded his gob while attempting the task. He said: “The fish fingers were so hot. I think I could have eaten more if I'd been able to let them cool down. I'm just happy to have the record.”
Guinness rules banned him from adding tomato ketchup or any other sauce. He also had to eat with a fork and the fish fingers had to stay in a clear container so officials could make sure none mysteriously disappeared.

Nathan said he only came up with the stunt because he wanted something memorable to tell comedian Lee Mack when he appeared on the hit ITV show. He said: “I thought, I'm not the world's most exciting person. I need something that's going to stand out.”
