A family day out in the majestic Snowdonia National Park turned into an unimaginable tragedy this half-term when a devoted father lost his life in a heroic attempt to save his teenage daughter.
The incident occurred on the notoriously perilous Snowdon Ridge, where the 53-year-old man from the West Midlands was walking with his family. According to North Wales Police, the group was navigating a narrow section of the path when his daughter suddenly lost her footing.
In a split-second act of selfless courage, the father lunged to prevent his child from falling. Tragically, the force of the rescue caused him to lose his own balance, sending him plunging down the mountainside.
Major Rescue Operation Launched
Emergency services were immediately alerted. The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team scrambled to the scene alongside an HM Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon and the Welsh Ambulance Service.
