A man has died after falling a considerable distance while walking with his daughter on Tryfan in Snowdonia. The incident occurred on Sunday when the pair, believed to be from the south of England, attempted to descend the mountain but turned back after realising the route was too steep.
Christopher Lloyd of Ogwen Valley mountain rescue said the man slipped and fell during their ascent back up a gully. The victim, who had climbed Mount Snowdon a day earlier, was spotted by a nearby rock climber, and police were called shortly after midday.
The man was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor but was pronounced dead. His daughter, believed to be in her mid-20s, was unharmed. Lloyd described the incident as tragic, noting that the pair had made the correct decision to turn around.
PC Gethin Jones of North Wales police confirmed the man was not local and that his next of kin had been informed. The rescue service deals with at least two fatal incidents each year in the area.
