Greater Manchester to Hit 31C as Third UK Heatwave Arrives

Greater Manchester is forecast to reach 31C on Friday, July 10, as the UK enters its third heatwave of 2026, according to the Met Office. Parts of southeast England officially entered a heatwave on Monday, July 6, after three consecutive days above 28C.

Temperature Forecast for Greater Manchester

Temperatures will build day by day across the region. Tuesday, July 7, will see highs of 22C, rising to 28C on Wednesday, July 8, and 30C on Thursday, July 9. The peak of 31C is expected on Friday, July 10, before dropping to 29C on Saturday, July 11, and 26C on Sunday and Monday, July 12 and 13.

UK-Wide Heat and Health Alerts

The Met Office warned that temperatures could reach 35C in the hottest spots, with widespread areas exceeding 30C. "Widely across southern England and Wales, temperatures of 33C to 34C are possible, with a small chance of reaching 35C in the hottest spots," the Met Office said. "Meanwhile, temperatures across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland could reach the upper 20s Celsius. Coastal areas are likely to remain a little cooler than inland locations, with sea breezes developing in places."

In response, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued amber heat-health alerts for the East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West, and yellow alerts for the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the North West. These alerts are in effect from 9am on Wednesday, July 8, to 9pm on Sunday, July 12.

Heatwave Definition for the North West

For the north west, the heatwave threshold is three consecutive days of 25C or more. This week will mark Greater Manchester's third heatwave in 2026, all occurring within seven weeks.
