Britain is set for a fresh blast of late-summer warmth as new weather graphics show temperatures surging back to 25C across large parts of the country. Latest maps generated by WXCharts using ECMWF model data reveal that Monday, September 14, will bring widespread highs well above average for mid-September, with the warmest conditions concentrated across southern and eastern regions.
Warm air mass pushes temperatures into the 20s
According to the maximum temperature chart for 6pm on Monday, a warm air mass pushing in from mainland Europe will lift surface temperatures well into the 20s. Central and eastern England will enjoy the peak of the heat, with temperatures reaching up to 25C in several spots, including parts of Greater London, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Kent. Large swathes of the Midlands and the South East will hover between 20C and 22C.
While southern areas bask in the mid-20s, western areas and northern England will remain pleasant in the high teens to 21C, with Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing milder conditions between 13C and 18C.
Sub-tropical air plume confirmed by high-altitude data
A second WXChart map shows the '850hPa Temperature Anomaly' for 12pm on Monday, which measures weather conditions roughly 5,000 feet (1,500m) above sea level. Meteorologists examine temperatures at this specific altitude because it sits above local ground-level influences, offering a clearer picture of the overarching air mass.
An anomaly compares this high-altitude temperature to historical seasonal averages. The deep red and crimson shading over England and Wales indicates a temperature between +8C and +13C above normal. This confirms that the incoming warmth is driven by a genuine plume of sub-tropical air moving over the UK rather than just brief surface sunshine, pushing ground temperatures significantly above typical September averages.
