The Met Office has named eight areas that will see high temperatures on Friday, with one topping out at 28C. The national forecast shared a 10-day forecast yesterday (September 23), showing temperatures are set to rise at the end of this week.
Rain and uncertainty in the north
On Friday, a band of rain will move into Scotland and Northern Ireland before gradually extending into northern England and north Wales. The Met Office said that its progress “remains somewhat uncertain” and the rain may arrive “later than currently indicated”.
But the main feature of the day will be the sharp rise in temperatures across the UK. Southern and southeastern England will be warm and humid, with highs of between 20C and 26C.
London set to reach 28C
Temperatures are potentially reaching 28C in London, well above average for late September. The average minimum temperature at Heathrow in September is 11C and the average maximum temperature is 20C. There is also an average of eight days of rain.
The Met Office said that behind the weather front, fresher air will reach northwestern areas, where temperatures will be limited to the mid or high teens. As the front encounters the warm and humid air further east, it may produce some heavier rain across eastern England later on Friday.
Weekend outlook and hot areas
Into the weekend, there will be rain in the northwest of England on Saturday, then moving across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday.
Areas set to see high temperatures tomorrow: Plymouth, Cardiff, Bath, Birmingham, London, Norwich, Brighton, and Canterbury.
