Liverpool is set for a wet and windy Thursday, along with much of the UK, as heavy rain sweeps in from the Atlantic, putting Merseyside among the first parts of England in line for the bad weather.
The weather front is expected to reach the North West during the afternoon before marching east across the country. It comes before temperatures are tipped to surge next week, according to The Mirror.
Downpours and affected areas
Downpours are predicted to move towards inland England and Scotland, with up to 16mm, more than half an inch, predicted to fall in the Lake District at around 5pm on Thursday before sunny spells return later next week.
Elsewhere, cities as far east as Newcastle and Hull will be hit by downpours, with heavy rain expected until the early hours of Friday.
Met Office and BBC forecasts
“Cloud and rain will spread erratically eastwards throughout the day,” the Met Office forecast predicts. “Rain turning heavier at times, particularly in the north, with the southeast likely remaining dry until after dark.”
In total, the weather maps suggest 100 UK areas will see rain by Thursday afternoon. The BBC Weather forecast for Thursday states: “Tomorrow, sunny spells in the east to start, but cloud and some light rain further west. Later on, a band of rain will feed in from the west, reaching the south-east by the end of the day. Breezy.”

A generally dry day with variable cloud on Sunday, but further rain in the far north-west later in the day.”
