Spanish jets scramble over Romania amid Russian drone attacks

Spanish fighter jets were scrambled over NATO member Romania after an aerial target was detected in Ukrainian airspace, around 12 miles north of the village of Periprava, near the Romanian border.

Two F-18 aircraft belonging to the Spanish Air and Space Force, deployed as part of NATO's Enhanced Air Policing mission, took off from Romania's 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, the country's defence ministry said.

The response came amid intense Russian drone attacks on Ukraine.
