At least 95 people have been killed in devastating flash floods in Nepal, with hundreds of tourists – many of them foreigners – still missing, according to official figures released on Wednesday.

The disaster struck the Himalayan nation's border region with Tibet. Hours after the floods tore through the area, 403 visitors, including 341 foreign nationals, were unaccounted for, the ministry of culture, tourism and civil aviation said.

Official tallies and nationalities

In its second situation update posted on X, the Nepal Tourism Board gave a tally of 384 missing travellers, 291 of them non-Nepalis. Many of the foreign tourists' nationalities were yet to be confirmed.

The confirmed nationalities of foreigners currently missing include: India (142), Malaysia (17), UK (12), South Korea (8), South Africa (4), US (3), Australia (1), The Netherlands (1), and Italy (2).
