Arndale knife attack: man injured, two teens arrested

A man was attacked with a knife and injured inside the Arndale Centre in Manchester on Saturday. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the victim suffered minor injuries. Two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article and remain in police custody.

Incident Details

Officers were called to reports of an assault at the Arndale Centre at around 12.50pm on Saturday 24 October 2026. Video footage shared online captures an Arndale Centre security guard kicking a knife away along the floor and securing it under his feet near an advertising hoarding before police arrived.

The Manchester Evening News understands the man suffered what is believed to be a slash wound to his arm. Footage being shared on social media shows a man believed to be a police officer restraining a man near the hoarding as a group of other young men shout at him and try to reach him. Punches are thrown before security guards intervene.

Police Response

In a statement, GMP said: "Officers were called to reports of an assault at the Arndale Centre at 12.50pm today (Saturday 24 October 2026)." The force added: "A man suffered minor injuries. Two men - aged 18 and 19 - were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article. They are in police custody."

GMP described the incident as "an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public". However, police patrols are being stepped up across the city centre, with GMP adding that people can expect to see extra patrols in place across the city centre this weekend.

No Link to Previous Attack

Police made two arrests after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed on the ninth level of the multi-storey car park at the Arndale Centre last Saturday, October 17. The teenager is said to be in a stable condition in hospital with the suspects currently on police bail. GMP stressed today's incident was not related or linked to last Saturday's attack.

No further details have been revealed and no age for the victim has been confirmed.
