London Travel Chaos: Weaver Line Suspended, Southern Trains Cancelled

The Weaver Line remains suspended between Hackney Downs and Chingford until Thursday following a major trackside fire in Walthamstow that damaged homes and gardens. Southern trains between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction were also suspended due to a points failure, adding to widespread disruption across London's transport network.

Weaver Line Suspension and Fire Damage

The fire broke out near Wood Street in Walthamstow, causing urgent repairs to the track. The Weaver Line is expected to have no service all day between Hackney Downs and Chingford, with severe delays on the rest of the line. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes.

Southern and Gatwick Express Disruption

Southern trains faced multiple points failures, including between Gatwick Airport and Haywards Heath, Uckfield and Oxted, and Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction. A fire next to the track at East Croydon also closed some lines, delaying trains by up to 15 minutes. Gatwick Express services are running only between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, with no trains calling at Balcombe in the London-bound direction. Disruption is expected until around 6pm.

Thameslink and Other Routes Affected

Thameslink services are reduced between Three Bridges and Bedford, and fewer trains are running between Three Bridges and London via Redhill. A tree blocking the railway between Lewes and Brighton earlier added to delays. Tickets are being accepted on Southeastern services between Tunbridge Wells and London Bridge, and on Southern services via Haywards Heath.

Underground and Overground Updates

The Suffragette line experienced severe delays but has returned to normal service. The Jubilee line had minor delays due to a faulty train at West Hampstead, but these have eased. The Metropolitan line has minor delays between Moor Park and Amersham due to train cancellations. A good service is running on the rest of the London Underground network.

Points Failure Between Uckfield and Oxted

A points failure between Uckfield and Oxted blocked all lines, with trains cancelled or revised. Southern services to Uckfield only run as far as Oxted, leaving stations including Uckfield, Buxted, Crowborough, Eridge, Ashurst, Cowden, Hever, and Edenbridge Town with no service. Disruption is expected until around 3pm.

Delays Towards Gatwick

A points failure between Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport continues to cause delays, with passengers advised to allow at least an extra 15 minutes. A reduced service runs between Three Bridges and Bedford, and fewer Thameslink trains operate between Three Bridges and London via Redhill.
