GB News anchor Michelle Dewberry broke down in tears after watching footage of the latest small boat arrivals from France. Speaking on her programme on September 24, she said a video of a man abandoning a toddler in the English Channel made her cry.
Distressing footage aired on programme
Dewberry warned viewers before playing the clip: “I want to play you a clip that I shall return to. I must warn you, this is very distressing. It actually made me cry when I watched it this morning.”
As the footage rolled, she described the scene: “This is one of these not so small boats, and you see the unfortunately now familiar scenes where you’ve got hordes of men desperately clamouring over each other to board these boats.”
Anchor describes toddler left in water
She went on: “On this one occasion, what you’ve now seen is a man with a very tiny child – I would say a toddler – on his shoulder, wearing a massive puffer jacket, dragging this kid along.”
“This kid is clearly in distress, he’s not doing well at all. He just basically leaves the kid in the water, has a cursory look back and just boards the boat anyway.”
Dewberry condemns the crossing
She added: “I have no idea of the relationship between these two individuals, but what I can tell you is all of these men who seem to think it’s okay to illegally enter this country, they do so at their own risk.”
“You know what I think – it’s absolutely despicable. They choose to do that as adults.”
“The very fact that anyone would decide to take a little child, a baby, who cannot consent to any of this and take that child from the safety of France, yanking them through the waves and the choppy water like that to endanger that child’s life… absolutely sickens me.”
“The fact that he just discarded that baby, almost like a piece of trash, I find it absolutely heartbreaking.”
