GB News interrupted its breakfast programme on Thursday morning (August 27) to deliver a breaking news alert following a flash flood in Nepal. Host Stephen Dixon issued the devastating update as shocking images emerged from the valley.
At least 165 people have died, with hundreds of foreign nationals from India, the US, the UK, Australia, Malaysia and Ukraine among those missing. Approximately 33 Brits are feared dead after a torrent of floodwater, mud and debris swept through a valley on the Tibetan border.
Search effort underway
The UN has mobilised supplies and personnel to support the Nepali-led search effort scouring the destroyed villages along the Bhotekoshi River. The flood destroyed almost 30 miles of road, and more than 400 travellers remain unaccounted for.
Ellie Costello and Alexander Armstrong, who were presenting the show, brought the programme to a halt minutes in to share the tragic news. The alert was accompanied by a graphic on the broadcaster's social media showing the scale of the destruction.
