A pilot and a British couple reportedly on their honeymoon have died in a helicopter crash on the Greek island of Sifnos. The aircraft went down shortly after 6pm local time (4pm UK time) on Monday, August 17, and erupted into a fireball, killing all three on board.

Crash details and victims

Local reports say two of the deceased were a British couple visiting the island for their honeymoon, while the third was an experienced pilot, a married father of three who had worked in the military, according to The Mirror.

The crash occurred near homes in the Tholos neighbourhood. The fire department stated that the bodies of all three people were recovered after the flames were extinguished.

Aircraft and witnesses

The helicopter, operated by Bellavia Aviation Services, crashed just before it was due to land at Sifnos heliport. Witnesses reported hearing a strange noise as the aircraft approached, as per Proto Thema.
