Netflix subscribers across the United Kingdom are facing a significant content cull this week, with a host of major films and beloved television series scheduled for removal from the platform's library.
Major Titles Departing the Streaming Service
The streaming giant regularly rotates its catalogue, and this January's exodus includes some of its most popular offerings. Subscribers have already lost access to The Big Bang Theory, Friends, and the Harry Potter film series earlier this month. According to tracking site What's On Netflix, the departures continue apace throughout this week, leaving limited time for viewers to catch these titles.
Daily Schedule of Departures
The removals follow a strict daily schedule. On Monday, 5th January, films Leligar (2021) and Mars One (2022) were taken down. Tuesday, 6th January saw the removal of Beyoncé Bowl (2024) and the action thriller Executive Decision (1996).
Wednesday, 7th January marked the exit of three films: 100% Halal (2020), Knight and Day (2010), and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).
A major blow for family audiences comes on Thursday, 8th January, as the recent cinematic hit Paddington in Peru (2024) leaves alongside the romantic drama The Lucky One (2012).
Friday, 9th January is a particularly heavy day for removals. All content related to Captain Underpants will vanish, including the special Mega Blissmas (2020) and the Epic Tales series. In a huge move for sci-fi fans, the entire current Star Trek catalogue on Netflix UK will be removed. This includes:
- Star Trek (3 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (7 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Enterprise (4 Seasons)
- Star Trek: The Next Generation (7 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Voyager (7 Seasons)
The day also sees the action film Skyscraper (2018), starring Dwayne Johnson, depart.
Weekend Farewells and a Cinematic Giant Exits
The weekend brings more final viewings. On Saturday, 10th January, the sequels My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2023) and Romeo Must Die (2000) will be gone.
Sunday, 11th January sees the removal of the animated favourite Flushed Away (2006), the French film Dear Mother (2021), and the comedy classics The Naked Gun and The Naked Gun 2 1/2. The most notable exit, however, is the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning blockbuster Oppenheimer (2023), starring Cillian Murphy. Its removal marks the end of a brief but prominent stint for the film on the platform.
Act Fast Before They Vanish
This week's extensive list of removals underscores the transient nature of content on streaming services. For UK Netflix users, it represents a final opportunity to stream these specific films and series before their licenses expire and they potentially move to other platforms. Subscribers are advised to check their watchlists and prioritise any last-minute viewings of these departing titles.
