Netflix subscribers across the United Kingdom are facing a significant content cull this week, with a host of major films and beloved television series scheduled for removal from the platform's library.
Major Titles Departing the Streaming Service
The streaming giant regularly rotates its catalogue, and this January's clear-out includes some of its most popular offerings. The exodus follows the recent departure of other heavyweights like The Big Bang Theory, Friends, and the Harry Potter film series.
According to tracking data from What's On Netflix, viewers have a narrow window to stream several acclaimed titles before their licenses expire. The removals are staggered across the week, with multiple films and shows leaving on specific days.
Daily Schedule of Departures
The wave of removals began earlier this week. On Monday, 5th January, films such as Leligar (2021) and Mars One (2022) were taken down. Tuesday, 6th January saw the removal of Beyoncé Bowl (2024) and the action thriller Executive Decision (1996).
Wednesday, 7th January marked the last chance to watch three films: 100% Halal (2020), Knight and Day (2010), and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).
The removals continue with significant titles on Thursday, 8th January. Subscribers must say goodbye to the romantic drama The Lucky One (2012) and the family favourite Paddington in Peru (2024).
Friday, 9th January is a particularly heavy day for fans of animated series and sci-fi. All content related to Captain Underpants is departing, including the special Mega Blissmas (2020) and both animated series. In a major blow for Trekkies, the entire current Star Trek library is also being beamed away. This includes:
- Star Trek (3 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (7 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Enterprise (4 Seasons)
- Star Trek: The Next Generation (7 Seasons)
- Star Trek: Voyager (7 Seasons)
The action film Skyscraper (2018), starring Dwayne Johnson, also leaves on Friday.
On Saturday, 10th January, the final credits roll for My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2023) and the action film Romeo Must Die (2000).
Final Weekend to Watch Oscar-Winning Hit
The week concludes on Sunday, 11th January with the removal of several classics. The animated hit Flushed Away (2006) and the French film Dear Mother (2021) will be taken down. Comedy fans will lose the iconic The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988) and its sequel The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991).
Most notably, the platform is pulling the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer (2023), starring Cillian Murphy. This leaves just a few final days for UK viewers to stream Christopher Nolan's blockbuster on the service.
This substantial content shuffle underscores the transient nature of digital streaming libraries. While Netflix is set to add new titles throughout January, the loss of such a wide array of popular films and series will be keenly felt by subscribers, prompting a last-minute binge-watching rush.
