UK UFO Sightings Mapped: Manchester Leads with 245 Reports

A new interactive map has revealed 164 UFO sightings across the UK, with mysterious black triangles spotted in the nation's skies. The map, based on data from research group UFO Identified, allows users to enter their postcode to explore every unexplained encounter between 2021 and 2026.

Manchester Emerges as UFO Hotspot

Manchester has emerged as a UFO hotspot with 245 sightings documented in the city and its surrounding area. London follows closely behind with 197 sightings over the past five years. The UK has recorded almost 2,000 UFO sightings in the last five years, according to UFO Identified.

While orbs, spheres, and "star-like" sightings make up the bulk of British sightings, researchers have logged 164 reports of wedge-shaped objects, meaning roughly one in every 12 sightings involves a distinctive triangle.

Witness Reports of Black Triangles

Witnesses across the country have reported seeing dark, matte triangles gliding soundlessly at low altitude over housing estates, farmland, and coastal areas before quickly darting away. The most recent sighting of this kind came on July 22, when a large black triangle with a red light on each of its points was witnessed hovering over Stretford in Greater Manchester for around half an hour.

Meanwhile, a triangle described as being perfect was spotted speeding across the sky above Chesterfield, while a 'black V-shaped boomerang' was recorded over the Fylde coast in Lancashire, and a soundless black wedge above Exmouth in Devon.

Pentagon Releases Classified Files

This comes as the Pentagon has been releasing batches of classified documents related to UFO sightings, including never-before-seen footage. The US defence department uploaded the first tranche of 161 files to their website on May 8 and have released more since. One of the files includes confidential testimony from a military official who claims he witnessed the infamous 1947 Roswell incident firsthand.

In 1952, US Navy Chief Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse, an experienced photographer, spotted a cluster of gunmetal-coloured objects flying in the clear blue sky near Tremonton, Utah. Newhouse reported seeing 10 to 14 reflective unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), which he described as looking like "two discs stacked on top of one another" creating a classic flying saucer shape. He captured around 1,600 frames of the objects and submitted the footage to the US government for review.

In one declassified FBI document, a former military pilot describes seeing lights in the sky in October 2023 on a flight between Boston and Dublin. He claimed that many other pilots have witnessed similar events between midnight and 3am.
