Path of Exile Mirage Update: A New Era Begins March 6
Developer Grinding Gear Games has officially announced the upcoming Path of Exile Mirage update, set to launch on March 6, 2026. This major free-to-play dungeon crawler expansion introduces a wealth of new content, including a fresh Challenge League, innovative skill systems, and significant endgame enhancements.
The Mirage Challenge League: A Battle Against Dark Forces
In the Mirage Challenge League, players will confront a rogue sect of the Faridun, who are siphoning energies from captured Djinn for malicious purposes. Aligned with the legendary Maraketh Sekhema Varashta, adventurers must thwart the Afarud—a twisted faction allied with the necromancer Saresh—and their undead army seeking vengeance on the Maraketh.
Key mechanics involve freeing trapped Djinn by defeating Afarud Warlocks and entering the Astral Realm, a mirage mirroring the world. Varashta offers three Wishes to modify the mirage, rewarding players with powerful loot, currency, caches, or mysterious coins upon defeating monsters. Shattering tethers to free Djinn weakens the Afarud's dark schemes in Wraeclast.
The league features Standard, Hardcore, and Solo Self-Found variations, all with identical core mechanics. Hardcore versions are parented to Standard, allowing continuation after death. A set of 40 new challenges (8 in Ruthless Mirage) rewards players with the Orb Regalia Armour Set and Mirage Totem Pole decorations for hideouts.
New Content and Features: Reliquarian Ascendancy and Beyond
Reliquarian Ascendancy Class for the Scion: This new class borrows powers from Unique items across Wraeclast, with Notable Passive Skills changing each league. Consequently, these skills are unavailable via Forbidden Flame and Forbidden Flesh Unique Jewels.
Exceptional Support Gems: Replacing Awakened Support Gems, over 40 Exceptional Support Gems offer enhanced capabilities, accessible in the endgame.
New Skill and Support Gems: The update adds multiple gems, including:
- Divine Blast: Projects a holy beam from your shield, causing an implosion and subsequent explosion.
- Holy Hammers: Slams the ground to summon cascading hammers, with Power Charges adding side hammers.
- Holy Strike: Infuses weapons with holy energy, summoning Holy Armaments as minions.
- Shield of Light: Retaliates against blocked hits with light waves.
- Various Transfigured Skill Gems like Shockwave Totem of Authority and Kinetic Fusillade of Detonation.
- Support Gems such as Blessed Call Support and Exemplar Support for enhanced gameplay.
Coin System: Coins of Knowledge, Power, and Skill corrupt level 20 Skill Gems, imbuing them with random Intelligence, Strength, or Dexterity Support effects.
Additional Content: Ten new Runegrafts in Kingsmarch ports, 13 new Unique Items, 8 new Divination Cards, and a reorganized Currency Stash with "Atlas" and "League" sub-stashes enhance the experience. Ongoing improvements to sound, art, effects, and environments round out the update.
