Thousands of users across the globe have reported issues with Instagram and Facebook, with the outage beginning around 2:30am UK time today. According to DownDetector, a website that tracks service disruptions, more than 16,000 users reported problems accessing Instagram as of 3am. An additional 100 users flagged issues with the Facebook app.
Users attempting to log into Instagram encountered error messages such as 'Something went wrong' and 'the page could not be loaded.' Many reported being unable to refresh their feed, with the app crashing or displaying a blank page after a few comments. Facebook users experienced difficulties accessing the website itself, with some unable to approve group member requests or use Messenger group chats.
Internet monitoring group NetBlocks confirmed the outage was not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering, but was an international incident affecting Meta platforms. On Twitter, users shared their frustrations, with one asking: 'Anybody Else Instagram Down ? Mine isn't working at all.' Another joked: 'Is Instagram down or do I just go on it too much?'
By 3:53am UK time, some DownDetector users reported that Instagram appeared to be working again, with one exclaiming: 'GUYS ITS WORKING AGAIN.' However, MetaStatus.com noted that the Messenger API for Instagram was still experiencing major disruptions, though users could still log into WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook. Meta, the parent company, has not yet commented on the issues.
