The widely-used chat application Discord has confirmed it will implement a mandatory age verification system for all users globally beginning in early March. This significant policy shift means the platform will treat every account as belonging to a teenager by default, unless the user can successfully demonstrate they have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction.

The first option involves submitting a selfie, which will be analyzed by artificial intelligence to estimate the individual's age. The alternative method requires users to upload a form of official identification, such as a driver's license or passport. Discord has committed to deleting these documents promptly after the age confirmation process is complete, typically immediately following verification.
Additionally, Discord will employ continuous behavioral analysis, monitoring user activity patterns, interests, and engagement times to estimate age probabilities. Users whose behavior consistently aligns with adult patterns may be exempted from formal verification checks if the system achieves sufficient confidence in their maturity status.
