Regulator Clamps Down on AI-Generated Content

UK communications regulator Ofcom has issued a significant fine to an artificial intelligence service for failing to protect children from harmful content. Itai Tech Ltd, the operator of the AI-powered 'nudification' website Undress.cc, has been fined £50,000 for its failure to implement effective age verification systems.

The enforcement action, announced on Friday 21 November 2025, addresses grave concerns that such technology is supercharging risks online. Home Secretary Henry Saker-Clark starkly warned that "AI is putting online child abuse on steroids," highlighting the urgent need for robust safeguards.

Wider Investigation into Pornography Websites

This penalty is not an isolated case. Ofcom has simultaneously launched new investigations into five other companies operating a total of 20 pornography websites. These probes are focused on similar failures to prevent underage access, signalling the regulator's commitment to stringent enforcement of the new Online Safety Act.

An additional penalty of £5,000 was issued to Itai Tech Ltd for failing to comply with a statutory information request from Ofcom, compounding its regulatory breaches.

A New Era of Online Safety Enforcement

This crackdown forms part of a broader regulatory offensive by Ofcom. The fine against Itai Tech Ltd follows a previous £20,000 fine issued to the website 4Chan earlier in the month, demonstrating a clear pattern of active enforcement.

The actions against Undress.cc and the other pornography sites represent some of the early major tests of the Online Safety Act's powers. The regulator has vowed to continue its robust approach to ensure all online services comply with their legal duties, particularly those designed to shield children from inappropriate and harmful material.
