Mark Adderley, the husband of Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha, has been elected as a London councillor despite being suspended from the Green Party over what critics describe as 'anti-Semitic rants' on social media. Adderley secured a seat in the Crystal Palace & Upper Norwood ward in Croydon, south London, a council that now has no overall majority.
Election Results
Adderley is one of eight candidates elected under the Green Party banner, which made significant gains across the capital, including its first-ever elected mayors in Hackney and Lewisham, and seizing control of Waltham Forest and Hackney Council. However, his election has drawn criticism from anti-Semitism advocates who point to a series of videos on his YouTube channel where he compares Israel to Nazi Germany and accuses Mossad of carrying out terror attacks.
Controversial Videos
In the 'Coffee Moaning' videos, Adderley is often joined by his wife, broadcaster Nadia Sawalha, who has been dropped from the ITV show Loose Women over the 'dangerous' posts. Several videos refer to 'Israeli false flag' operations, including claims about the assassination of US political figure Charlie Kirk and a missile attack on a British base in Cyprus.
In a March video, Adderley said: 'There's a word which is Lebensraum, which is "living room", and that's exactly what [Adolf] Hitler wanted in all the countries around him. The weirdest thing about the maps of history, when you look at how Hitler expanded Germany, or sought to expand Germany, it's almost a complete identikit to what [Israeli prime minister, Binyamin] Netanyahu, is doing in the Middle East.' He added: 'Israel is the biggest threat to the sovereignty of every nation on this planet because they are "the chosen people". Deluded. It's a cult, it's just a cult.'
In the same video, which has since been deleted, he speculated on the killing of Charlie Kirk: 'I am telling you now, Charlie Kirk was not shot by this guy [the suspect Tyler Robinson]. He was taken out. It's the deep state, [Israel's] Mossad intelligence, CIA. It's the same f****** thing — CIA, Mossad, everything is hermetically sealed.'
In another video from March, after a kamikaze drone struck a British base in Cyprus, Adderley questioned whether it was an 'Israeli false flag', saying: 'The Western Zionist-supporting, Israeli-complicit media and governments are all going to say, "Well, it must have come from Hezbollah."'
Attack on Home Secretary
Adderley also unleashed on Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, calling her a 'puppet of the Zionist state' after she announced the Government would appeal a ruling that the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful. He said: 'You're an absolutely f****** shameful politician. You could seek to soften your right-wing, fascistic-sympathising, Zionist-f****** cosying up.'
Nadia Sawalha's Response
Ms Sawalha, 61, was dropped from Loose Women, with a source saying both parties 'are having some space' before discussing any return. In a recent video, after learning her husband had been suspended from the Green Party, she blamed 'dark forces behind everything that you see' and claimed he had been 'slandered' and unfairly punished. An insider said: 'People both on and off camera at ITV have complained to bosses about the nature of the YouTube channel, which has become increasingly conspiratorial and looks like anti-Semitism, disguised as anti-Israel rhetoric.'
Ms Sawalha, who was one of the original lineup when the show launched in 1999, last appeared on Loose Women at the end of April. She has steadfastly campaigned for her husband and spoke of her pride following his election. Posting a video on Saturday night, she said they were 'chuffed' that there are now several Green councillors 'swarming' around her local area, with voters choosing 'hope instead of hate'. She added: 'I'm so thrilled for the Greens and I'm so thankful to everyone who voted for Mark and knows what a damn fine man he is.'
Criticism from Lord Walney
Former Labour MP Lord Walney, the government political extremism adviser, criticised Adderley's election, saying: 'This man's election crystallises the over-privileged, Israel obsessed crank-fest the Green Party has become as it welcomes in the activists who almost sank the Labour Party when Jeremy Corbyn was leader. Charlatan leader Zack Polanski couldn't disown the cesspit he has created with any more sincerity than his claims to be able to enlarge women's breasts through hypnosis.'
The Green Party has previously stated that Adderley's videos do not represent the views of the party. The Daily Mail has contacted the Green Party for comment.
