Nintendo has unleashed a major crossover event within its beloved life-simulation game. The Animal Crossing New Horizons 3.0 update, released on 16 January 2026, now allows players to invite iconic characters and decorate their islands with themed items from two other legendary Nintendo franchises: The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon.
For fans who have dreamed of blending the serene island life with adventures from Hyrule, this update is a significant addition. Characters such as Tulin and Mineru from the Zelda universe can now appear as villagers, while a host of themed furniture and collectibles, including the Master Sword and Heart Containers, are available to order.
Unlocking The Legend of Zelda Content in ACNH
Accessing this new content is not automatic. Players must first own a physical Legend of Zelda amiibo figure or card. The process begins at the Nook Terminal inside the Resident Services building. By selecting the 'Invite Villager' option, you will be prompted to scan your compatible amiibo.
The specific character who visits your island depends on which amiibo you scan. A wide range of Zelda-themed amiibo will work, but they are linked to either Tulin or Mineru.
Amiibo that invite Tulin include:
- Bokoblin (Breath of the Wild)
- Ganondorf (Tears of the Kingdom)
- Link (Archer, Breath of the Wild)
- Revali (Breath of the Wild)
- Tulin (Tears of the Kingdom)
- Zelda (The Wind Waker)
Amiibo that invite Mineru include:
- Guardian (Breath of the Wild)
- Link (Twilight Princess)
- Mipha (Breath of the Wild)
- Sidon (Tears of the Kingdom)
- Wolf Link (Twilight Princess)
- Zelda (Tears of the Kingdom)
Once scanned, the new Zelda items will immediately appear in the Nook Shopping catalogue under the 'Promotion' tab. You can order up to five items per day for delivery the following morning.
How to Get Splatoon Crossover Items
The Zelda series isn't the only one getting the Animal Crossing treatment. The 3.0 update also integrates content from Nintendo's colourful ink-based shooter, Splatoon.
The method is identical: you need to scan a Splatoon-related amiibo at the Nook Terminal. This can summon either Viche or Cece to your island. The corresponding amiibo lists are extensive, featuring characters like Pearl, Marina, Callie, and various Inkling figures.
This dual-franchise crossover significantly expands the creative and decorative possibilities within Animal Crossing New Horizons. It encourages collection and adds a fresh layer of nostalgia and fan service for dedicated Nintendo players.
What This Means for Players
This update reinforces Nintendo's strategy of creating a connected ecosystem between its games and merchandise. The requirement for amiibo to unlock the content drives engagement with the physical product line while rewarding collectors.
For the player, it means more reasons to revisit their island, engage with the new systems, and personalise their virtual home with unique items from gaming history. The addition is a clear win for fans of all three franchises, blending their worlds in a charming and collectible way.
So, dig out those amiibo figures and get ready to welcome some very special new neighbours to your island paradise.
