ARC Raiders 2026 Roadmap: Multiple New Maps Promised by Embark Studios
ARC Raiders 2026 Roadmap: New Maps Confirmed

Embark Studios, the acclaimed developer behind the immensely popular extraction shooter ARC Raiders, has unveiled exciting plans for the game's future, promising multiple new maps will arrive throughout 2026. This announcement comes directly from design lead Virgil Watkins, who confirmed the expansion during a recent interview with GamesRadar+.

Expanding the ARC Raiders Universe

Currently, ARC Raiders features five distinct main maps, each offering unique themes and loot opportunities for players to explore. These environments are typically unlocked progressively as players engage with matches, with dedicated enthusiasts likely having accessed all available areas by now. The game's dynamic extraction shooter mechanics ensure that no two sessions feel identical, with encounters varying based on interactions with hostile ARC robots or competing players scavenging for resources.

Developer Insights on Map Design

In his discussion, Watkins elaborated on the studio's vision for the upcoming content. "There are going to be multiple maps coming this year, and I think it's going to be across a spectrum of size to try to facilitate different types of gameplay," he stated. He further clarified this approach by noting, "So you might see some that are smaller, and you might see some that are even grander than what we've got now."

For context, Watkins identified Spaceport as the current largest playable area, measuring approximately 1.6 by 1.4 kilometres. However, he pointed out that several other maps can feel more expansive due to their densely packed interior layouts, which enhance exploration and tactical opportunities.

Enhanced Gameplay Experiences

The ambition behind these new maps extends beyond mere size variations. Watkins teased potential innovations that could significantly alter player experiences. "The ambition is to try to pair it with some new type of experience, whether that's the map conditions or weather conditions we put in that make the play feel different, enemy types or compositions feeling different, or we're escalating the types of loot available there," he explained.

This suggests that future updates might introduce dynamic weather systems or environmental hazards, similar to the Frostbite mechanic added in December's Cold Snap update, which inflicted damage on players caught in snowstorms. That previous expansion also included a new Goalie Raider Deck for progression, though it did not feature any new maps at the time.

Player Engagement and Competitive Landscape

Despite the lack of a specific release schedule for these new maps, ARC Raiders continues to maintain strong player engagement, regularly attracting around 350,000 daily participants with no indication of decline. This loyal community remains eager for fresh content as the game evolves within the live service model.

The timing of this roadmap announcement is particularly noteworthy as the extraction shooter genre prepares for increased competition. With Bungie's highly anticipated title Marathon on the horizon, Embark Studios appears focused on reinforcing ARC Raiders' position through substantial content updates. The studio's commitment to expanding map variety and introducing innovative gameplay elements could prove crucial in retaining its player base and staying competitive in a growing market.

As 2026 progresses, players can look forward to discovering these new environments, which promise to deliver diverse challenges and enriched experiences within the ARC Raiders universe.
