A 23-year-old mother from Queens, New York, has been charged with murdering her six-week-old twins, prosecutors revealed during her arraignment on Saturday. Danezja Kilpatrick is accused of initially attempting to poison the infants before killing them, and may have kept their bodies in her apartment for up to four days.
According to Queens Assistant District Attorney Adarna DeFrietas, Kilpatrick first tried to kill the twins by mixing household cleaner Pine-Sol into their milk. When that failed, she allegedly placed her son Dakota face down in a bathtub and ran scalding hot water over his back until he stopped crying. She then killed her daughter Dallas by plunging a knife into the back of his head while he was in his bassinet.
Police discovered the bodies on Thursday after Kilpatrick's sister requested a wellness check. Officers found the boy with a blade still embedded in his skull in a bedroom crib, and the girl wrapped in a pink blanket under the sink. Kilpatrick reportedly told police she 'didn't want' the babies 'anymore' and had 'stopped caring.'
Kilpatrick has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. She is being held without bail. The case has shocked the community, with relatives expressing disbelief over the tragic events.
