Toniebox Lite: £60 Portable Audio Player Lets Grandparents Record Stories
Toniebox Lite: Grandparents Can Record Stories for Kids

The new Toniebox Lite, priced at £59.99, lets grandparents record stories for their grandchildren through a Creative-Tonie, offering a portable, screen-free audio experience for young children.

Tonies has launched its most compact device to date, the Toniebox Lite, designed for small hands and ears. The starter set includes a Creative-Tonie named Rubie, pre-loaded with Rubie's Amazing Adventures, and enables children to record their own messages, songs and stories via the Tonies app.

Compared with the standard Toniebox 2 at £104.99, the Lite Starter Set provides a more affordable option. The device is available now and is expected to be a sought-after Christmas gift.

Features and Design

The Toniebox Lite features a simple squeeze of the ears to adjust volume, while a tap or tilt allows skipping, rewinding or fast forwarding. It comes in a minimalist grey finish with a compact, durable shell, making it suitable for travel. A sleep timer progressively reduces volume before switching off automatically.

Soft silicone covers are available separately in various colours for customisation and protection against knocks and drops. The Lite model is compatible with the full Tonies library, including Originals and bedtime stories, with the exception of Tonieplay interactive games, which remain exclusive to the Toniebox 2.

Playback and Connectivity

Offering up to six hours of playback on a single charge, the Toniebox Lite works with both wired and Bluetooth headphones. Once a Tonie has been played initially, it functions without Wi-Fi, and Offline Mode lets parents disable connectivity when needed. Initial configuration takes minutes via Bluetooth.

Parents can use the complimentary Tonies app for remote management, including volume restrictions, usage duration controls and battery monitoring.

Alternatives and Customer Feedback

The Toniebox 2 remains available as the full-featured model, offering Tonieplay interactive entertainment, a Light Ring, Bedtime Mode and a Sunrise Alarm. At Argos, the Yoto Mini retails at £65, while the Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Going Places Learning Purse is available at the Early Learning Centre for £15.

Customer feedback for the Toniebox Lite is currently limited online, with existing reviews gathered through a promotional campaign. One reviewer said: "This product is perfect for your child age 1-9 I would say! This box allows you to purchase your child’s favourite characters and listen to stories in that character's voice."

Another review noted: "This Toniebox is such a great travel-size Tonie and it comes with a customisable Tonie which is great because we used our daughter's grandparents to record stories to the Tonie so she can always hear what they sound like."

On Trustpilot, where Tonies holds a 4.3-star rating, one reviewer raised a concern about ease of use, stating: "My 5-year-old loves it, but we found it sometimes difficult to operate, connect to a new network or connect headphones." Another user said: "I have just bought a Tonie for my nephew...I think they are the best thing since sliced bread."

The new Toniebox Lite is available to purchase at Tonies.
