Particula GoDice review: Digital twist on classic dice games

Particula's GoDice brings a modern twist to traditional dice games, combining physical dice with Bluetooth connectivity, motion sensors and a companion app. The system bridges the gap between tabletop gaming and digital entertainment, aiming to make familiar games more interactive for younger players.

How GoDice works

Each die looks conventional but contains motion sensors, wireless connectivity and an LED lighting system, allowing it to communicate the result of a roll to a compatible device. Instead of tapping a virtual dice roller on a touchscreen, players can throw a real die for a tactile experience.

Rolling real dice offers the old-school feel of tabletop gaming, while the connected app adds animations, interactive elements and automated game mechanics. It introduces technology without losing the social experience of gathering around a table.

Games and features

The GoDice app provides access to more than 20 games, including family entertainment, educational activities, party games and traditional dice-based challenges. The app works with compatible iOS and Android devices, with a tablet recommended as the best way to experience it.

Automated tracking and scoring are useful features, while interactive visuals make the experience more engaging for younger players. Educational games offer a playful way to practise basic numeracy.

According to Particula, each die can recharge in around 10 seconds and provide up to two hours of gameplay.

Price and user feedback

The only drawback noted in the review is the price, which is a little on the high side. Particula GoDice is available from Amazon for £71.49.

One user said: "Really pleased with this, our grandson loves it (keeps him off his iPad), and played all 4 games all day at Xmas. We (adults) also enjoyed it. Easy to assemble, sturdy, and good quality parts and accessories."

Another commented: "Good fun, but could be a bit cheaper in my opinion. The dice do charge up quickly and work really well."
