The iRobot Roomba Mini, a compact robot vacuum designed for smaller floor spaces, is currently on sale for £249, reduced from its previous price of £379. The device produces 7000Pa of suction, making it suitable for hard floors, although it struggles with low-pile carpet.
Design and performance
Measuring 24.5 x 24.5 x 9.2cm, the Roomba Mini is described as “small but mighty” and can cover up to 130m² for up to 75 minutes on a single charge. Its smaller body allows it to reach into nooks and crannies more effectively than standard-size robot vacuums, leading to a better clean in corners and edges.
iRobot, founded by roboticists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been producing robots since the 1990s and entered the robot vacuum market in 2002.
Features and usability
The Roomba Mini is operable via an app, hard buttons, or voice assistants including Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri. It cleans and charges without user involvement, and for self-emptying, it uses AllergenLock bags, which minimise contact with dust and dirt.
One noted downside is that the device's bodywork is susceptible to scuffs and scrapes, so it should be kept away from sharp edges. The vacuum is suitable for hardwood, tile, vinyl, and carpet surfaces, and includes a mopping function.
