BMW has unveiled its latest 7 Series, describing it as the most extensive update the model has ever received. The luxury saloon introduces the brand’s next-generation Neue Klasse technologies, with a focus on digital features, sustainability and extended electric range.
The fully electric i7 will be the first variant to arrive in the UK, with three versions going on sale from September 2026. The entry-level i7 50 xDrive produces 455 bhp and offers up to 452 miles of range, while the i7 60 xDrive delivers 544 bhp and up to 451 miles. The flagship i7 M70 xDrive generates 680 bhp, covers up to 426 miles and accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds. All models feature Gen6 battery technology with cylindrical cells, enabling a 10-80 per cent charge in around 28 minutes at a peak DC rate of 250 kW.
Plug-in hybrid versions will follow later in 2026. The 750e xDrive combines a six-cylinder petrol engine with electric power for 489 bhp and up to 50 miles of electric-only range, while the M760e xDrive boosts output to 612 bhp.
Inside, the new 7 Series introduces the Panoramic iDrive system with Operating System X, a large central touchscreen and a standard front passenger screen. Rear passengers benefit from an upgraded Theatre Screen with 8K resolution and Dolby Atmos sound, plus video conferencing capability. Comfort features include adaptive air suspension, integral active steering and optional Executive Lounge seating with up to 43 degrees of recline.
Externally, the car adopts a cleaner, more monolithic design with a slimmer kidney grille, ultra-thin daytime running lights and full-width rear light graphics. BMW’s Individual programme offers over 500 exterior colour combinations, including a new dual-finish paint option.
Driver assistance has been enhanced with Level 2 systems offering hands-free motorway driving up to 81 mph and a City Assistant for junctions and traffic lights. BMW also highlights a 30 per cent reduction in supply-chain emissions through increased use of recycled materials and renewable energy in production. The new 7 Series will be built at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany and makes its public debut at the Beijing motor show on 22 April 2026.
