Route2 Logistics has officially opened its new depot in Coatbridge, marking a major milestone in the continued growth of the specialist haulage and pallet distribution business.
Located at 8 Palacecraig Street, nestled between the M8 and M73, the new 22,000-sq ft facility provides additional warehousing, yard space and vehicle capacity, creating a significant new operational base for Route2 in the West of Scotland.
Strengthening the Scottish network
The Coatbridge depot complements Route2’s established Dunfermline operation, creating a stronger Scotland-based network and enabling the business to provide faster lead times, greater capacity and flexibility for companies delivering products to customers across Scotland.
Marc Batey, commercial manager at Route2 Logistics, said: "Dunfermline has been our foundation for Route2 in the East of Scotland. Opening a depot further West is the next step in building a stronger, more connected Scottish network. Coatbridge puts us right in the heart of the Central Belt and gives us a much stronger position from which to serve customers across Scotland."
Operational details and services
The new depot is already operational, having undergone a soft launch to test routes, systems and logistics ahead of the official opening. From Coatbridge, Route2 provides a full range of palletised distribution services, including groupage, part loads, full loads, daily services and contract logistics.
Route2 is owned by Joe Wall, founder of Cress Co - the UK’s largest distributor of fine foods - and owner of Adamsons Drinks. He established Route2 to bring the proven logistics expertise developed through Cress Co and Adamsons Drinks to businesses beyond the group.
Jobs and fleet
The operation is supported by a growing team, including a dedicated depot manager, commercial manager and new drivers, alongside the wider transport expertise of sister companies Cress Co and Adamsons Drinks. More than ten new jobs have been created at the depot.
With a fleet of more than 100 vehicles and over 20 years of experience moving thousands of palletised consignments for Cress Co and Adamsons Drinks, Route2 has built its service around reliable, direct distribution, with a focus on keeping goods moving efficiently and minimising unnecessary handling.
Official opening
The Coatbridge depot represents the next stage in Route2’s development as it continues to build its Scottish network and is well positioned to provide direct pallet distribution across Scotland, from city centres and rural locations to island routes, while also supporting businesses moving freight between Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The official opening of the Coatbridge depot was deliberately low-key, with the priority firmly on getting drivers on the road and customer deliveries made rather than holding a traditional opening ceremony. Alongside Joe Wall and Marc Batey, the event was attended by Rodger Caldwell, operations manager, and James Lochrie, depot manager. The final Route2 truck to leave the depot that morning provided the official opening moment, driving through a branded Route2 ribbon as it headed out on its morning deliveries.
