WhatsApp confirms major update with 4 new features

WhatsApp has confirmed a major update that brings four new features to its billions of users. The changes include long-awaited iPad support, a smarter in-car experience, improved PDF tools, and an easier way to share music with friends.

Direct iPad account creation

Users can now create and register a WhatsApp account directly from the iPad app without needing to pair it with a phone. Previously, signing up required a phone. WhatsApp said: "One of the biggest things we've heard from people is wanting to create a WhatsApp account directly on their iPad."

Redesigned in-car experience

WhatsApp has completely redesigned its apps for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can listen to and reply to messages, make calls, view call history, and access favourite contacts directly from the car's display. The update aims to reduce the temptation to pick up a phone while driving.

Improved PDF tools

Users can now open PDF files directly inside chats without downloading them first. On web and desktop, PDFs can be highlighted and annotated within WhatsApp thanks to Adobe Acrobat integration.

Music sharing to Status

Music lovers can now share tracks from Apple Music and Spotify straight to their WhatsApp Status, making it easier to show friends what's currently on their playlist.

The new features are rolling out now. If users don't see them immediately, they should arrive via an upcoming app update.
