TikTok users across the UK and Europe were left unable to access their accounts on Tuesday evening, as a major outage hit the popular video-sharing app. Reports began flooding in around 8.30pm, with many users saying they could not log in, while others saw their follower counts drop to zero.
Independent monitoring site Down Detector recorded a sharp spike in outage reports, with users taking to Twitter to vent their frustration. One affected user said, “TikTok is down can’t login and seeing 0 followers and 0 likes on my accounts.” Another added, “So I have to change my username??? And have 0 following, 0 followers, 0 likes??”
TikTok has acknowledged the issue, posting on Twitter: “The TikTok app is currently experiencing some issues, which our team is working quickly to address. Thank you for your patience!” By 10.30pm, most users appeared to be back online, though some continued to experience problems.
The company has not disclosed the cause of the glitch, but some users reported that restarting their phones seemed to resolve the issue. This is not the first time such an outage has occurred; a similar problem in May also saw users lose their followers, though the issue corrected itself automatically.
