Thousands of Spotify users in the UK have been affected by a global outage that left the streaming service inaccessible. Independent monitoring site Down Detector recorded over 21,000 reports of problems in the UK, with 66 per cent of complaints relating to the app, 18 per cent to the website, and 16 per cent to audio streaming.
The outage began shortly after 1pm, with reports spiking rapidly. Areas worst hit included London, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow. Users reported being unable to play tracks or load playlists, with some seeing error messages stating that playlists were empty. Others experienced playback cutting out or songs skipping randomly.
Spotify acknowledged the issue on its status page, stating that users were experiencing problems with the app not loading properly or playback issues. The company added that its technical team was investigating the matter. The official Spotify Status account on X also confirmed they were aware of the issues and checking them.
The outage was not limited to the UK; other affected countries included Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. In the United States, a brief spike of 829 reports was noted but quickly subsided. Users took to social media and Down Detector to express frustration, with some reporting that the app had stopped working on both mobile and desktop devices.
As of two hours after the initial spike, thousands of users were still reporting problems. Spotify has not yet provided an estimated time for restoration, but assured users that they are working on a fix.
