Samsung held its annual summer Unpacked event in London, where alongside three new foldable smartphones, the Korean firm announced a refresh of its ultimate watch: the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
The next-generation wearable offers significant upgrades over its predecessor. It is powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, promising snappier performance and faster app launches.
Battery and Display Improvements
Samsung promises a battery life boost of around 35 percent over older models, allowing users to go away for a weekend without worrying about packing a charger.
The device also features a brighter 5,000 nit display, making it easier to check the time and read messages even in direct sunlight.
Design and Durability
Samsung has slimmed down the Ultra 2 for a more comfortable fit and covered it in titanium to ensure durability during travel.
Fitness and Sports Features
The Ultra 2 includes extra fitness and sports features, such as tracking ultra-long-distance trail runs. It provides real-time hydration guidance and nudges users to drink water.
Diving Capabilities
The watch has received diving certification and can automatically track real-time diving data—depth, time, and water temperature—when the user enters the water. Advanced diving features, including ascent/descent speed tracking and safe dive limits, will be available via the exclusive Ultra2 Diving app, developed with Mares, the world’s leading diving equipment brand. The app is expected later this year.
Health Vision
“Samsung is committed to helping people live better. We want to make the shift from reactive treatment to proactive care as seamless as possible. By integrating everyday devices with our global scale, we’re building a deeply connected health experience,” said TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.
“The new Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 represent a massive leap forward in Samsung's health vision. By continuously tracking health data from the wrist, these new watches act as a vigilant health companion, turning daily vital signs into proactive, actionable insights and providing timely alerts.”
