Social media users are experiencing issues accessing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as it appears Meta is suffering from an outage.
Website monitoring system Down Detector, which allows people to make reports when they experience technical issues across any online platform, shows reports being made shortly before 1pm on Wednesday, July 22.
User Reports and Reactions
Comments on Down Detector for Facebook includes: "FaceBook down, South Wales, UK, 1PM.", "Site down in the UK", and "all Meta apps are down as of 1pm GMT". Similarly for messaging site Whatsapp, also owned by Meta, a spike in reports started at around 1pm.
People have flocked to X, formerly Twitter, to complain of the outage. X user @_louise__ wrote: "Is anyone else's Facebook page not working? My friend said she can still see my page but I just can't get onto it." And @nanaiwediuno said: "Is Facebook having issues, can't access my account, I thought my account was hacked until coming up here to see other people complaining, @facebook @Meta what's happening?"
Regarding Instagram, X user @aashishsarda07 said: "Everyone rushing to Twitter to see if Instagram is actually down", and @Prakashsoni001 commented: "Is instagram down again".
