EA FC 27 Switch 2 60fps hopes dashed by playtest

Nintendo Switch 2 owners hoping for a 60fps experience in EA Sports FC 27 may be disappointed, as a hands-on playtest has indicated the game will run at 30fps on the console. The revelation comes from Polish journalist Maciej Zablocki, who tested the game at EA Sports' headquarters in Vancouver, Canada.

Playtest reveals frame rate cap

Zablocki, writing for tech outlet PPE, confirmed that the Switch 2 version of EA FC 27 will run at 30 frames per second. He noted that after switching from PS5, the difference is clear. The journalist also highlighted potential issues with crossplay, as players on other platforms may enjoy 60fps, creating an uneven playing field.

Despite the frame rate cap, Zablocki praised the Switch 2 version for its content parity. He wrote: "The most important thing is that Nintendo console owners will get exactly the same content as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players." He added that there will be no neutered modes or simplified features on Switch 2, including The Grounds, the new open-world social hub.

Improved visuals and gameplay

Zablocki also noted improvements in graphics and image sharpness compared to last year's EA FC 26. He described the gameplay as responsive and visually clear, stating it didn't feel like a diminished version of the full game.

EA Sports FC 27 is scheduled for release on Friday, September 25, for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The game will also launch on PS4 and Xbox One, but those versions will not include The Grounds. Official confirmation from EA Sports regarding the frame rate is still pending, but this playtest offers the clearest indication yet that Switch 2 players will be capped at 30fps.
