A new viral coffee drink called Cloud Coffee is gaining popularity on TikTok. It combines coconut water with a frothed mixture of espresso and cream, creating a taste that some describe as coffee ice cream in drink form.
The drink is made by pouring coconut water over ice and topping it with a thick layer of double cream and coffee that has been frothed together. The coffee-cream mixture floats on top of the coconut water, resembling a cloud.
Origins and Variations
The exact origins of Cloud Coffee are unclear, but it appears to be a blend of two earlier viral coffee trends: the Dalgona coffee, a whipped South Korean coffee popular during lockdown, and the coconut water iced Americano that trended earlier this year.
Social media users have praised the drink. One user described it as “coffee ice cream in drink form,” while another said the drinks look “dreamy.” A third commenter added, “I think I’m falling in love.”
Alternative twists on Cloud Coffee are already emerging, including tiramisu, iced strawberry matcha, peanut butter, Baileys, Biscoff, and Dubai chocolate versions.
How to Make a Cloud Coffee
The recipe is straightforward and requires no extensive whipping. Ingredients include 150ml unsweetened coconut water, a double shot of cooled espresso, 50ml double cream, a handful of medium-sized ice cubes, and a pinch of salt.
To prepare, froth the cream, cooled espresso, and salt together with a handheld frother for 15 to 30 seconds. Then, fill a tumbler with ice and pour in the coconut water, leaving room at the top. Spoon the coffee-cream cloud over the coconut water and stir before drinking.
While coconut water is known to be a source of electrolytes and potassium, adding syrups can increase the calorie content.
Verdict
The drink offers roasty coffee notes combined with fluffy cream, and when mixed with coconut water, it becomes refreshing with a touch of sweetness. The reviewer rated Cloud Coffee ten out of ten and said they would absolutely make it again.
