Beach Hack: Plastic Bag Trick to Stop Sand Getting Everywhere
Beach Hack: Plastic Bag Trick to Stop Sand Everywhere

A woman has shared a simple trick that will help you avoid spreading sand all over your car and house after a trip to the beach — and it only requires one thing you probably already have at home.

The Problem with Beach Sand

When temperatures soar as they have done this week, few things can beat a trip to the beach. For those fortunate enough to live within easy reach of the coast, a refreshing dip in the sea is an absolutely unrivalled way to cool off — just make sure you don't forget your sun cream. However, there's one nagging issue — no matter how much you try, it's virtually impossible to rid the soles of your feet of all that sand when it's time to head home. You'll inevitably end up trailing it throughout your car and house, not to mention spending the next few days tipping it out of your shoes.

The Viral TikTok Hack

Now, though, one woman has devised a brilliantly clever solution, and all you need is something you've almost certainly got plenty of at home. Lara, who boasts more than one million followers on social media, shared her nifty life hack on TikTok. She uploaded a video of herself at the beach with the on-screen caption: "This is why you have to bring a plastic bag to the beach." Lara said: "Okay, I'm gonna show you guys a life hack. Grab a plastic bag, put a bunch of water in there."

The clip showed her using an ordinary plastic carrier bag to scoop up water from the sea and carry it back up the beach, reports the Express. She said: "I don't want to wear my shoes with a bunch of sand in it, right?" Lara demonstrated the technique by dipping one foot into the bag, instantly removing all the sand, and stepping straight into her sandal, before repeating the process with her other foot. "Dip your foot, put your shoe on," she said. "Same thing with the other foot. Dip your foot, throw your shoe on. I don't have to have sand everywhere." In the video description she added: "Just please recycle your plastic bag!"

Viewers Offer Alternatives and Concerns

Fellow TikTok users were quick to share their own suggestions. One commented: "Keep baby powder in your trunk. When you get to the car, put powder on your feet, sand comes right off!" In response, another user asked: "Does that really work? I hate having sand on my feet after the lake or beach." The original commenter replied: "Yes - my mother did it to us kids all the time before we could get in the car. Wipe off with a towel, put baby powder on, sand falls away!"

Another user offered an alternative approach: "I would carry the water out to my car and dip my shoe and foot then get in the car. Doing it that way the sand gets right back on your feet and your shoes." However, some viewers expressed reservations about the use of plastic bags. One wrote: "Please don't encourage people to bring any kind of plastic to the beach. Most of it will likely not end up in the garbage." Another commented: "I would stay away from recommending plastic bags at the beach. We have enough issues with our oceans [and] sea life as it is. So many people will pollute with those damn bags." One user offered a far simpler solution: "We just use a bucket."
