During a recent My Chemical Romance concert, lead vocalist Gerard Way was publicly quizzed about his experience with the critically acclaimed role-playing game Baldur's Gate 3. The interaction, which took place during a break between songs, has since drawn the attention of the game's developer, Larian Studios.
Fan Sign Prompts Confession
Fan Katana Luciana, who attended the show, held up a sign reading, 'Have you played Baldur's Gate 3?' One of Way's bandmates spotted the sign and brought it to his attention. In response, Way admitted that he has not played Baldur's Gate 3, nor its predecessor Baldur's Gate 2, although he is a fan of the original Baldur's Gate from the late 1990s.
'No, I only played Baldur's Gate 1. Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time,' Way said, before asking the audience if Baldur's Gate 3 is good, which elicited a massive cheer.
'I would assume so. The first one was a lot of fun. You know, it was the closest thing at the time to playing Dungeons & Dragons,' Way added.
Larian Studios Offers Free Copy
Following the confession, Larian Studios tagged Way on X (formerly Twitter) to offer a 'code with your name on it' for a free copy of Baldur's Gate 3. As of the time of writing, Way has not responded to the offer. The developer is currently working on a new entry in its Divinity role-playing series, while Dungeons & Dragons owner Hasbro plans to pass Baldur's Gate 4 onto a different developer, though it has not yet been announced which one.
Way's Dungeons & Dragons Fandom
Long-time fans of Way might be surprised by his admission, given his well-known enthusiasm for Dungeons & Dragons. He lent his voice to a themed pinball machine released in 2025, further cementing his connection to the tabletop role-playing game. However, the sheer size and depth of Baldur's Gate 3, which can take over 100 hours to complete, may explain why Way has not yet found the time to play it.
Other Concert Surprises
Way's Baldur's Gate confession is not the only unexpected moment from My Chemical Romance's current tour. During one show earlier in July, Way let out a poorly timed burp while performing one of the band's more emotional songs, which fans found hilarious.
